Big Bone Lick State Park
Kentucky
Kentucky

I am late getting this one up.
The adventure was taken on August 30, 2008. It was my first adventure to this park.

This pictures is right outside of the visitor's museum and gift shop. Its basically a diorama of the swamp. There was a mammoth skull too. And a large creature I didn't recognize. I took the trail off of this area.

I found a river in the woods. I sat down along the top dome for a while. Just sat there in the quiet, except so many people kept coming by, trying to figure out why I was sitting there. But eventually I wondered down and actually sat by the river. Less chance of others seeing me so quickly.

This is the dammed up lake. I liked this picture because of the beautiful reflection on the lake.
I have to say, over all, I wasn't really impressed with this park. It seemed a bit more tourist oriented than preservation oriented. I prefer a quiet trail with few to no people on it when I go hiking. The trail I chose was clearly the one people choose most of the time. And maybe smaller trails would be better next time. But I'll have to allow for far more time.
The best part of this adventure was driving around in the hills of Kentucky. It was so beautiful and peaceful. I drove for at least an hour before trying to find my way back to the interstate. I just let myself get lost. It was amazing!

If I can get the gears working on my bike and you don't mind jacking mom's, I'll load them in the truck and we can hit up the bike trails around Lunken sometime.
